Default Leaving on you bike and coming home in a uhaul is an epic fail

Five of us left on our annual ride. We leave out of dayton, take back roads to knoxville, ride the dragon, head over to cherokee to get on the blue ridge parkway, ride the parkway up to rockfish gap, take 250 through west virginia, then hop on I-70 for a three hour ride home. We do this every year, it is about 1200 miles in 4 days.
This trip did not end well. Saturday evening we were about 30 miles from calling it a day, a deer ran out between the 3rd and 4th bike. My uncle had to avoid the deer which put him into a bad situation. He couldnt make the next turn and went down. Broken shoulder, collar bone, 7 ribs and a punctured lung. All in all he was pretty lucky.
My cousin stayed back with unc in the hospital, so i ended up driving a uhaul with 3 bikes back from roanoke.

At least you didn't have to ride in the back with the bikes.

Hope he heals quickly. There will always be another trip. Sounds like this one did suck, though.

It's been in the 40's here the last few mornings. Coming in from work at 5am today, there were several on my 25 mile trip home. I think I'll slow down a little on my way home tomorrow.

Damn rats with hoofs. I'm more afraid of them than anything else when on the bike. Hope your uncle recovers quickly.

Dam, if he wanted venison that bad, he shoulda shot the dam thing with his hunting rifle.
He is still alive and recovering, his bike can be fixed ...
Hope he gets well soon to ride again.

That sounds terrible and I'm glad he is going to be all right. It could have been much worse.

You know, I really hate deer and I do not like the PETA types that are against deer hunting

I hope your uncle has a quick recovery
