I've been thinking about riding from Austin to Big Bend and back to Austin this November. Has anyone ever ridden to Big Bend before?
Anyone on such long rides have any recommendations? I've never been to Big Bend, but expect there to be a lot of rural areas.

 

been to Big Bend twice, we based out of Alpine and rode
all over the area, Ft.Davis,Marfa,Presidio,Terlingua,Big Bend
and it is a cool ride for sure. Time of the year should be good
not too hot at that time I think. My first time was in early May
and after riding the ranch road over to Presidio and stopping
to drink anything (it was 106*) and the kick stands were
sinking in the pavement, we looked like that Wild Hogs
scene "Water,Give me water". Be careful and dont want
to be down by the border at night, at least I wouldn't.
Watch out for free range cattle also, no real cattle guards
on the roads but I did see some PAINTED on the roads, I
think the cattle were so weak that they believed they were real.

You should enjoy it going in November....it shouldn't be that hot. We went in May last year during a cold spell and only got up to 100. Your definitely want to ride the Farm road to Presidio and try to catch the Marfa lights!
