Default Upstate VT and NY - How are roads?

A bunch of us are doing a weekend ride from Maine to upstate New York this weekend. With Irene I know there are a bunch of roads that are washed out in VT.

We were planning on going route 4 thru Rutland down to Lake George NY but I hear that route 4 is washed out in a few places.

Anyone have any road reports or any suggested routes from southern Maine to Lake George?

Also interested.
We are heading down through NY state from Ontario to Newburgh NY for the Firefighters memorial 911 ride next weekend and wondering where the most road damage is.

Vermont is in bad shape, most of the main roads have some closed sections, rte 4.7.9... I'm supposed to be going there the weekend of the 23rd for my daughters college family weekend... Right now the hotel we're supposed stay by killington is cut off with washed out roads.... Here is a link for updates

We had a great 3 day trip. You just can't imagine the devastation in VT. Whole roads/bridges/houses gone or washed away etc. We ended up taking 149/103/140 - basically the southern east/west route since route 4 is totally shutdown.

Lake George was pretty busy with tourists. We rode up to Lake Placid area one day.

The weather was, well, typical New England. We had warm weather then rode thru a thunderstorm one evening then cool the next day and rode thru the worst torrential downpour I've ever been in on a bike.

All in all a very nice weekend trip - 6 bikes and 750 miles.

Glad to hear it. We were thinking about heading up that way next week. It'd be nice if this rain would end!

My folks live in Northern VT and NH, St J and Mt Washington areas. They say it's not so bad right now, just a few of the covered btidges are now gone but the road have been cleared up and power restored. Just bring a chainsaw and you'll be fine!
