Default From VA to DC

Hey all,
I'm planning a trip to DC for the 2nd or 3rd week in September.
I'm completely flexible on when I go up there and how long I say.

I could spend up to 7 days up there, but I have a feeling 3-4 should be more than enough. I'll be going solo, so won't have to worry about kids, etc.

There are a ton of resources online of what to do, but most aren't related to motorcycle riding.
I'm looking for any tips, good roads to follow, etc.

So far I have the following plans based off a top 10 about.com article.
  1. Visit the smithsonian
  2. Visit the monuments and memorials
  3. Tour the 3 houses of Gov't
  4. Tour georgetown
  5. Walk/Kayak the C&O Canal
  6. Hike great falls park
  7. Explore Mount Vernon
  8. Tour old town, Alexandria

I found a bike route that takes me by the C&O Canal so I will probably try it as well.

Anyone have any must suggestions or adjustments to my list above?

Stay outside the beltway ( 495 ) Look at the hotels near Rt 1 in Beltsville, MD. Take a short ride to the Greenbelt Metro stop & ride the subway into downtown. The Metro will take you to most of the tourist sites. Traffic is nasty pretty much most of the time. I grew up there & this is what I do when I return there. Take a look at DC Ducks... Have a good trip!
