Going to Sturgis and was hoping some of you could give some input on the various routes up there. I have zero interest in taking I-25 to I-90. Yes it would be the fastest but talk about boring. I found, via the HD trip planner, a route that takes I-25 to Cheyenne, WY and then US-85 to US-18 to SD-79 to I-90.

The other route takes us through NE rather than WY. US-24 to CO-71 to I-76 to US-138 to US-385 to US-79 to I-90.

I know NE is a helmet state so that could factor in as the guy I am going with does not wear one but who knows. Anyway, besides the helmet issue are there any pros/cons to either route or perhaps another route I am not seeing?

 

I rode your first route (Wyoming) going to the Black Hills 2 years ago. I think it's a little more scenic than Nebraska, and the roads are very good.

 

Go thru Cheyenne then cut North to Lusk, then thru the hills to Sturgis. It's fun pulling into a little Wyoming gas station with a hundred other riders and only 2 pumps. Just fill, hand the nozzle to the next rider throw some money on the counter and ride on

Thank you slhanks4 and kayapelli. We decided that WY is the route we are going to take. It just looks/sounds like the more interesting ride.
