So some buddies and I are taking our annual trip. Our starting point is Chicago area, we usually do 400-450 miles a day, we leave tuesday or wednesday and come back sunday. we have done the around lake michigan tour, did wisconsin and along the missisipi through iowa, now looking for something different this year. we are leaving first week in August. i wanted to go to sturgis area, but thinking it may be to crowded with the rally being so close. also thinking about tail of the dragon. but overall we are really open to ideas and just want to get away! i have a 05 rk, one guy a bmw 800, and the other guys a vstar 1100 not that that matters...

I would do the dragon if you have never done it.

 

I would recommend the Tail of the Dragon area. There are so many great roads to ride in that area of Tennessee and North Carolina. Just Google tail of the dragon and that website will give you a map of the whole area.

Went there last year, goin' there this year.

 

I haven't, but am a little worried about southern heat in august

 

It wasn't too hot in Tennessee and North Carolina last August. While we were in the mountains we were wearing jackets when we left the motel till around 10 o'clock in the morning. I wouldn't worry about the heat.
