Default Heading fir Sturgis for the first time

yes we are trailering the bike up there. We rented a Class A motorhome and got an RV campsite at the Buffalo Chip. You can call me a wimo all you want for trilering, but i have been going through chemo and about 200 miles is all i can ride right now. at that rate it would take me 5 days just to get there, five days back, and no time to enjoy.

My question is, what are rides that I should not miss that will be 2-300 miles round trip while I am there?

I'm also going for the first ever. Thankfully i have a good freind that I will meet when I arrive who has been there several times before and they will be escorting us around the area. Sorry to hear of the chemo treatments, I've understood they can be very tiring. Stay well rested and hydrated and don't overdo it. My buddy tells me that you have to ride real cautiously and have eyes in the back of your head with all the traffic that there will be. We'll be staying at the Red Sky Lodge in Rapid City and are truly looking forward to it.

1000 miles one way, I'd trailer too and I'm not going through chemo. Good luck and have fun at Sturgis. Don't forget to post pic when you get back.

Needles Highway, the Badlands, Deadwood & Devils Tower for sure. All great rides and the history of Deadwood, if you are not familiar, makes it very interesting. I am kind of gold rush era / Dakota Territories history buff. I always go to the museum and my friends just roll their eyes and say we'll meet you at the bar later.

Needles HWY and the wildlife loop to see the buffalo for sure. My personal favorite is Spearfish canyon. Deadwood's very cool, and there's another great one called "Von-Knocker" I believe that's great as well. The only ride that may be more than 200 round trip might be "Wyoming Wednesday". And I went to that last year and as far as I'm concerned it was a waste of time anyway. Trailer, ship your bike, do whatever works for you, who ini the hell am I to judge? Just have a great time! Oh 'ya, Keystone is a very nice little town too.

Everywhere you want to ride is a 2-300 mile ride from Sturgis, just keep in mind the rides in the hills are windy mountain roads and you'll spend a lot of time in traffic, so you may get tired in fewer miles. It can be really hot, so remember to stay hydrated. A guy I was with made that mistake last year and I almost had to check my favorite riding partner into the hospital. He missed a really good ride to Hill City that day. (Names omitted to protect the guilty, he reads this forum)

Like others have already said.

Spearfish Canyon

Iron Mountain, Needles Highway. We like to ride from south to north so when you go through the tunnel you get a view of Mt Rushmore framed.

Vanocker Canyon from Sturgis to Nemo is a great ride. Big Momma's in Nemo is a good place to stop.

Custer State Park loop if you want to see buffalo and wildlife.

Deadwood, Keystone, and Hill City are cool places to see.

Devils Tower

Badlands

The Buffalo Chip will be lots of fun. It is a community in itself and will have concerts every night. The Full Throttle Saloon is east of Sturgis and you will go by on your way to the Chip.

Ride through downtown Sturgis on main street at least once to get that experience.

You will have a great time. There are lots of maps and people are very friendly and will help you.

Have fun, ride safe.

Thank you for all of the responses. I am looking forward to this trip, and plan to ride as much as I can. I am going to wear my camelback when I ride to try to keep hydrated.
