Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon,Mount Rushmore, Full Throttle, Custer,Hulett for breakfast, Buffalo Chip, down town Sturgis. Get down town early, find a parking place, and then a bench to sit on and watch the people....maybe a beer or two.

+1 on Hulett .... Nice ride to Devils Tower too ..... Crazy Horse is impressive ... It's all good Brother! Don't go with a schedule .... just kind of let the whole experience happen!

Iron Mtn road and Needles Highway are some scenic rides with fun riding. They get very congested during the rally, but still worth if if you ask me.

Make sure to have some cash on you when going to downtown Sturgis. Chances are, you will be parking in someones backyard and they charge 5-10 bucks (last time I was there).

It's not a bad thing though as most have people keeping a good eye on the bikes.

Make sure to check the concert schedules at the Chip and Glencoe. They have great top acts every night and you can go see them even if you aren't staying at their campground.

Deadwood! Deadwood!

If you are into it, there are paragliding and helicopter rides near by so check it out.

If you are staying in one of the campgrounds, some of the wildest times are after the concerts. That's the time to take a 6 pack and walk around the campground.

Thunder Road is pretty cool (if it's still there).

Whenever possible (and there won't be many times) park the bike under something. I swear there's a hail storm at least one day every time I have went.

Have a great time!

IMO if you want to sight see don't do it then. Way to many people & alot of them shouldn't be riding motorcycles. Just my 2 cents. Just be ready for LONG LINES!!! You should do it at least one time!!!

I did Sturgis for my first time last year.

Highlight for me was ZZ Top.

The burnouts were insane! Cool, but insane! The smoke + fire off these bikes... Crazy.

Bike wash was a rip off.

Chip Shower (the primo one) $7. Good shower, but $7???

I stayed Sunday to Friday @ the Chip. Busy busy

I had a buddy there, but he was with is crew + dad and brother. Basically I was campin near them.

The Machine guns were cool, and Deadwood was interesting.

All in all for me, been there done that.

Miss Buffalo Chip contestant 18 got pretty wasted, and bumped into her @ the chip under the burnout bar. That was interesting...

Rode all the way from Van, BC. By myself. Buddy from Edm, AB.

Ozzy VIP was cool, but missed meeting him...

They (Buffalo Chip) never announced it, and I found out later he was meeting people.

Oh, all the women @ the chip are either attached, or hired help. Good luck picking up anyone there...

Look into the backroads north of town, saved me some time. Don't trust a GPS (Garmin - 2010 map) to leave the Chip and turn Left to get to the interstate. Bogus map??

Have fun.

I'd go if I picked two consecutive nights of concerts, and stayed in a motel. Didn't like camping with people floating valves @ 03:00

My two cents.

I'm an old geezer too, so maybe that's why I agree so much with 103 sedona. You have to do it at least once. But... I never saw so many incompetant riders in one place at one time. You can see all the posers stop at Wall Drug and unload the bikes to "Ride to Sturgis" while the wife/GF drives the pick-up. To those of us who ride there they are known as "candyass trailer queens" and I mean the bike riders not the girls driving the trucks. If there was any truth in advertising the signs would say, "Welcome to trailer week".

You can be gassing up a thousand miles out and see some dude in a black tee shirt, leather vest, leather screaming eagle cap, fingerless gloves, dirty jeans and greasy boots pumping diesel into his truck. And then the ******* has something rude to say to the guy on a Gold-Wing who really rides.
