Who out there is planning on running the Hoka Hey this year.

I was thinking about riding a portion of the ride from reno to Sturgis, is any one out there planning on doing the whole ride?

i know I spoke with him yesterday about sponsoring him, I was hoping to get some more input on an idea I have to sponsor him.

I was thinking of auctioning off one windshield per day untill he goes on the ride, and then any proceeds over my cost would go towards his sponsorship.

I was hoping to find some more people to participate.

I am planning to do the whole ride. I think it will be longer than last year, but less demanding in terms of navigation.

Difference between last year and this year: More miles....over 10,000 this year, over 8,000 last year. More days to finish, mandatory 24 hour layover at one of the checkpoint locations to force rest period. HD is sponsoring this year. Entire new development and marketing group involved.

ETA: Deleted other comments, will start own thread with additional thoughts.

Im not too sure about the demands of navigation. from what I heard/read, Jim Redcloud was really surprised over how many managed to finish the ride. I got the feeling they intend to make the navigation part even more demanding.

that said I did the ride (9,135 miles) in 10 days + 18 hours. I was finisher number 25. unfortunately a finisher was anyone who made it to Homer, regardless of miles traveled. A good number of folks became disenchanted or what ever and used both interstate and direct routes. some even short cutted three states (NM, AZ, UT) and still got credit for their finish. for someone who rode the route and followed the rules, hearing that some weenie who didn't even try gott credit for finishing was/is pretty hard to swallow.

regardless, I am still politicing with the spouse to do it again. sure I got ***** an can do whatever I want, but having a home to return to isn't a bad idea either.

last year I forked out nearly 6K for all things. this go around I think I can come in umder 4k. (the 1k entry fee ain't the half of what this ride will cost. the entry fee is chump change compared to gas, oil,, tires, n other stuff)
