A couple of thoughts:

1) I don't think you gain much by going through Denver between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone. For my time, I'd rather stay north and enjoy more of southern Montana/northern Wyoming.

2) On the south end, if it were me I'd head north from the Grand Canyon and catch some of those magnificent southern Utah roads. See Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Monument Valley. These will be more rewarding than riding south into Phoenix. From here you can also get your Colorado rockies fix as there are some magnificent roads in the southern part of that state.

These are just my thoughts, and it is your ride. Tombstone would be really cool, I'm sure. It's just that if it were me, I wouldn't trade that for the aforementioned roads in southern Utah.

Sounds like a great trip. Have fun!

That sounds like a good plan. What I may do is eliminate the east coast states and concentrate more on seeing the west. I have been up and down the east coast in a car about a dozen times, but my only trips out west have been flying into Vegas and staying in the city my whole time there. I really want to hit more places out west on this trip as I may never get back there on wheels.

This is one of those trips you should get a little netbook to take a long with you, and post updates to a blog for all of us that can't do these kinds of month-long rides...so we can follow along the thrill of the ride with you

That's a great idea. I also wanted to meet up with as many forum members as possible throughout the trip and get some pics with them to add to the scrapbook, as well as get the native's escort through some of the roads. I have a friend who is a couple years from retirement and will be free to go with me, so that may be when I go. It will be nice to make it a two man tour so dinners won't be so boring! I would love for my wife to go, but I don't think I could convince her to go on this trip with me.

Sounds like a great trip, and doable in the time you allow. If possible, add another week just in case you find a nice spot and want to stay an extra day or three.

Start a savings account, and force yourself to put money in every payday. Estimate how much you will need and add 20%.

Also, put Yosemite on your list. Some of the most awsome scenery anywhere.

stay away from east coast and do Beartooth Pass and any thing west is great
we ride 8:00 am till 5:00pm and then get the hell off the road and settle in for the night.

miles wise 300 to 550 a day

just sit on that bike and take in the views is something else not like in a car.

have a great trip
