Default Sturgis? We're considering staying in Lead, SD

Has anyone stayed in Lead, SD? Deadwood? Any recommendations as to where to stay? It's just the 2 of us, so nothing too fancy will suffice. It's our first time going, and I want to make it worth a second or third trip. Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Boy, I'm glad they moved this thread from a forum that gets over a million hits (general chat), to a forum that gets just over 30K. Nice to see they wasted no time doing it too!

if your staying in Lead bring some winter clothes. It can get down right cold at night up there. Friends of mine stayed up there one year and it was around freezing in August!! They didnt have any...ANY heavy weight gloves, face masks ect.

Deadwood gets expensive at rally time.

I looked into a few places last year and it was twice the price of the room I had in Rapid City.

Are you looking for a room or to camp?

We stayed in Keystone and loved it. Also, check out Custer... next time we go, that will be our hangout.

Were looking to room it, no camping for me. Doesn't have to be fancy, but a flat bed and a toilet would be nice found a few cabin style places for half the price of a motel. Just need 2-3 nights, as we are headed to CO for other activities when we leave. Oh, and the cold weather at night is no big deal for us, we're from WA state! I actually hope you right about that.....

Here's my two cents.. last year was my first time to the rally. Had a awesome time! My buddy and I stayed in a motel in Rapid City. That was OK but too far from all the action. This year we wanted to be closer to Sturgis but we're not into the campground scene so we booked a room at the Golden Hills Resort. This way we can take the hotel shuttle into Deadwood and have a few beers without the DUI hassle etc.. Can't wait till AUGUST!

I believe Lead would be a good spot, but I am sure its spendy. I would rather stay in Hill City or around there and ride up to Sturgis when need be, but I have been there for 7 years. Also I think staying at the Cabins in Nemo would be fun. Looks like they have a great time there. Not to far from Deadwood either. Keystone is starting to be popular and they have a little rally down there with all the bikes on main. Its all going to be expensive for rooms.

Stayed at the Best Western Hickok House in Deadwood and Golden Hills in lead. Both cost about the same , 225-275 a nite. The towns are really close to each other and nice places to stay.
