Default Crossing Massachusetts - advice?

Hey Guys,

My Dad and I are embarking on our lifelong dream in July 2011, and riding across the United States.

We're starting in Cape Cod, and I was wondering if you guys could recommend some great roads across the state. We're heading North West in the direction of Ontario. Beyond that, would love your advice on the best most scenic roads to take.

Thanks!

Default Nh/vt?

I'd head north first, and cut through New Hampshire and Vermont.

In NH, ride the Kancamagus, Mt. Washington, and the Notches. Take a look at my NH Notches tour here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...ches-tour.html

Check out Mt Washington here: http://www.mtwashingtonautoroad.com/...he-sky/videos/

I'm sure others can fill in the best roads in VT better than I can.

As for MA, there just isn't nearly as much good riding as in the northern neighbors.

Route 2 goes clear across to NY but it fairly straight until some mountains in the far west. Route 2 is real nice in the fall but kind of boring otherwise. Problem with going through NH and Vermont is it's so nice that you will burn up a lot of precious time. You live in Mass so you can do that anytime.

Why go through Canada?

Passport cost $130. Times 2 = $ 260

Where do you want to reach the Pacific?

What to you want to do once you reach the Pacific?

Come back the same way?

Take a loop back?

Go down the Pacific coast hwy?

See LA or anything else?

How much time to you have?

You simple question was not that simple.

Like 32vld stated your simple question is not that simple. You ask about crossing MA and the best roads for that .Then throw in that you riding across country. You have alot options there. Depending on how much time you have and what you want to see.You need a minimum of 2 weeks for a round trip and thats pushing it.
If I was doing it I would head west stay in the northern states all the way to the Pacific and take the 101 down the coast.Head home from there good luck. can't wait until I retire and do the same. I will take a couple of months doing so taking my time and seeing the sights.

Route 6 goes from Provincetown, all the way to Long Beach CA. Not sure how scenic it is all the way, but make sure you take 6 all the way through PA. You won't be disappointed with it.
