Default Best travel guide for the Blue Ridge Parkway

Headed to the tail in April with the wife for the first time. The net has some great info but not all in one place. Wondering if anyone here has seen a great guide for the bike.

Where are you starting your trip from.
Enter the nps.gov web site and request a map of the BRP. its a great help. One of the best sights IMO is Linville Falls short hike but fantastic views. Enjoy the ride, BRP is a great trip.

If you go to the BRP,org site, Jeff supplied.... there are maps, and travel guides available for FREE. The big difference between caging the BRP, and riding it... is the riders preference for side trips. A good curvy fun road to ME... is "too much work" for my neighbor.

When we toured the skyline/brp last summer, I figured the daily average mileage, and then began a "google maps" search for food/lodging. Then I adjusted the plans accordingly. We took 3 days to cruise the parkway, and could have used 2-3 more days to have more side trips.

There are hundreds of riders on this forum, who have ridden the BRP, and there are dozens of threads regarding BRP trips. Lots of great info in them.

Take the long hike to the upper viewing area. Actually see the upper viwing area AND the one at the base of the falls, in addition to the pond between both falls. Look for Whiteside mountain, south of brevard, between CAshiers and Highlands, the cliff is the largest in the eastern US.
Bridal veil falls
dry falls
Highway 276 off the parkway near Brevard
Highway 80 north of Mt. Mitchell towards Marion.

Late April, hopefully. Even then can be iffy in the higher elevations. A few years ago I tried to ride the BRP to a Georgia rally in late April but it was closed south of Asheville, before Mt Pisgah, due to snow.
