Don't forget to see Acadia National Park in Maine, and also maybe go on a boat for a whale watch. Also gotta have some lobsta in Boothbay Harbor out on Cabbage Island. All the posts that mention it are right, Mt. Washington is a must!

I'll have to check that out too. Thanks man. What about bars, restaurants, and sights to see? Any suggestions on some cool spots to check out?

Go through the Smoky Mountains in N. Carolina on the way to the Tail of the Dragon. Lots of small towns along the way with great diners. In Colorado I liked riding through Estes Park where I stopped for pizza and a beer. I can't remember the name but it was the only pizza place in the park. Texas was HUGE and don't ride at night because the critters come out. Hit one and it ruins your day. It's not too long up in the northern tip where it looks like you might be. One thing you might do is look at the web site for Man vs Food for good eats along the way. I did the reverse route from Cali to Myrtle Beach two years ago and loved every mile. Spend some time around Laconia on your way to Maine for Lobster but do not miss Mt. Washington and take the Kankamangus Highway on the way there.

The tail of the dragon is a lot of fun. You have to be carefull and watch out for traffic. The area of NC and Tennessee has some of the best riding. You are constantly smiling while you ride! If you did drop south you can hit the Blue Ridge Parkway and ride north. Just my opinion but this area has the best riding in the east!

With that being said you will be going further north of this area. Gettsyburg is a great stop. You can also go up to Niagra Falls and cut across. Upstate New York is awesome! People assume this area is like New York City but it is not.

Some people may know more about this but during the summer Americade is going on and of course Laconia bike week.

Just a thought but if you're this far south you may want to consider riding the Blue Ridge Parkway beginning in VA, SW to the end in Tennessee. Like Hwy 1 in California, I feel the BRP is one of those roads everyone who rides a motorcycle should do. It's about 500 miles long and runs along the "ridge" of the Blue Ridge Mts (the highest elevatons east of the Mississippi) Because of this it is cool in the summer. And there are plenty of motorcycle friendly campgrounds in WV, VA, NC. In fact there are two *very* friendly "motorcycle only" campgrounds right off the Parkway. Willville http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/ approx mile marker 178 (178 miles south from the beginning) and Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground mile 413 (take Rt 276 a few miles.) http://www.blueridgemotorcyclecamp.com/
IMO the roads in SW Virginia, western NC, eastern TN are some of the best motorcycle roads in the country.

our route does take us up through upstate NY but I hadn't thought about Niagra.
Good call! I looked it up and it looks like we'll miss Laconia by about 2 weeks.. As far as NC goes... I have considered dipping further south on the east coast and then traveling in a northwest direction back home. Maybe come west as far as Oklahoma and then up through Nebraska or something. Trying to avoid the dry heat of Texas, Arizona, and Nevada...

Now that's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for!!!!!! I will def include all or part of the Blue Ridge Parkway in our trip and the campground info is PERFECT!!!
