I did a lot of research here before I put my kit together;

I went with a Warbonnet and WhoOPIE system though there are others and some folks do a lot of mixing;

On the websites there will be photos but I can fit my hammock, suspension, tarp, quilts and accessories in a saddlebag.

you know I was thinking that hammock looks like it would be better for sleeping, but if it does rain or if your trying to find a place to put your back and belongings, atleast you can hide them in a tent to be dry or out of peoples eyes.

I've done a lot of investigating over the past year....buy a tent, or a hammock and the hammock setup seems to take up less room on the bike, and keeps you up off the ground (snakes and ground creeping critters). A tent gives you more room but takes up more space on the bike. Either requires a fly cover for waterproofing. The tent needs a tarp or something under it plus a bedroll or sleeping bag. The hammock, a bottom quilt or blanket and an upper quilt or blanket. Seems the hammocks are awfully easy to hang and I like the idea of being up off the ground. Old bones here...lol but like everything you have to really shop around. Some of it is pretty pricey.

I did quite a bit of reading prior to getting my hammocks. Last year around xmas Hennessy Hammocks was running a sale where if you bought a Safari hammock they would give an expedition for free. I ordered them and up until recently have only used them in the back yard for the kids to sleep in every once in a while. We are heading out to the Natchez trace this weekend to camp and use our hammocks again.

For info the best resource I found was hammockforums.com Jacksrbetter.com hennessyhammock.com . I only have the hammock/tarp/and underquilt for the time being. I am using a sleeping bag as a top quilt but I intend on replacing it with a Jacks R Better top quilt. The quilts pack VERY small and take up ALOT less room than my sleeping bag. Hammocks are kind of like Harleys. You can get the basics and not spend too terribly much money or you can go all out and have different underquilts/topquilts/hammocks for different applications and spend all kinds of $$$.

forgot to add that there are a ton of video's on youtube if you search for Hennessy Hammocks or Warbonnett Blackbird. If I were to get another hammock knowing what I know now I would probably have bought the blackbird. If my other son begins showing an interest in hammock camping as well then I will likely get me a black bird and let my kids use the hennessy's.
