Default Bedford, Indiana

Well today I got word that I have to make a road trip to Indiana next week. I think I will ride it. By myself unfortunately, usually my wife is with me on bike trips, but I need this for my soul.

Travel on Monday, work Tues & Wed, then travel home on Thurs. Take Friday off. Prob just take I64 from Richmond, Va over to Indiana and get off wherever to get over to Bedford. Reverse it on the way home. Last time I was in this area in August bikes were plentiful.

So is there anything over in that area worth checking out? IDeas for a bettter route? Unfortunately will be in a hurry to get there for the job, though I could leave early... but I have to be back Thurs night.

Edit: Just looked at a map and Bedford, In is right smack in the middle of Hoosier National Forrest. I should find plenty of riding there if I get out early!

Jolly, there are a lot more states than Indiana for a m/c ride. Having lived in Indiana most of my life I can tell you that not much to see. At least Bedford is in southern Indiana which has some nice scenery. And it is fall now so the colors should be good. Hoosier National Forest does not really offer much either. If you have the time recommend a short trip up to Bloomington and/or Nashville Indiana. Nashville is the mecca for all the fall color enthusiasts in Indiana. Some say it rivals New England. Some nice twisties between Bloomington and Nashville. You should also stop in and say hello to John Mellencamp who lives in Bloomington (born in Seymour, just east of Bedford).

I agree with hoethree. I grew up just south of Bedford. Bloomington/Nashville is great anytime but especially in the fall. South of Bedford is Orleans (my old hometown), Paoli and French Lick (think Larry Bird). Great riding down 37 then to Paoli and into French Lick. They have a casino now and 2 great old hotels to visit. In Bedford visit M&E Honda, great people and I grew up with owners (Tell them Eric from Orleans sent ya). They do rides from there on a regular basis and can give you some ideas on good rides. Ask for Tammy or Shirley; they will know who I am.

I wouldn't laugh to loud, southern Indiana has some nice riding roads. You will be in a good place to pick up some of those roads.

Just outside of Bedford is route 450. Very nice, twisty road! You then can get on 150 to French Lick. Make sure to stop at the West Baden Springs Hotel. Very cool old hotel that was restored. The lobby is this huge domed area that you have to see.

Going the other way from Bedford, you can take 58 to 135, then head north to Story and Nashville. 135 from 58 to Nashville is a blast to ride. Home cookin' at Cafe 58 and Hitchin Post on 58. Story Inn has some fancy food upstairs and tavern food in the basement bar. Nashville is a tourist attraction with a lot of shops.

Make time to do these rides and visit these locations. You will not regret it!

Would have to agree with both Ozoneman and prodrag1320 with the spots they have identified. The area described is just about it however in Indiana, unless you like riding in flatland and cornfields (and pig farms). Cant tell you how many times I would ride down from Indianapolis to the Brown County area just to have some nice riding. Anywheres north however is a bust for sure. Along the southern border following the Ohio river can be nice too however. Here in northern New Mexico now I think I have died and gone to Biker Heaven. Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado has GOT to be some of the best riding in the world. Come on down Hoosiers, you'll never go home to Kentuckiana!

Twofields6, you will not regret the trip once you get here! New Mexico is called the Land of Entrapment for a reason. Couldnt pry me out here with dynamite! By the way, my birth town was Seymour so I know the hills and hollers of southern Indiana for sure.

Take I 64 West from Richmond VA. To Ind 37 turn Right (go North) to Bedford. Indiana 58 East is great ride to Indiana 135. Do stop at Cafe 58 in Kurtz. Ind 135 North from Ind 58 to State Road 252 is a good ride. State road 135 South from State Rd. 58 or US 50 is also a great ride. I live in Columbus email if you have time and maybe we can meet you at the Cafe 58. It is a small country diner great food and Harley motif. Clean, Clean, Clean. Rain expected for Monday but who knows.
