We wanted to do both of these side roads, but we just didn't have time. With the limited number of days we had, we had to choose some things over others. It was my understanding that the Burr Trail ride would have added at least 2 1/2 hours to our ride that day and we were running out of daylight and wanted to make it to Hanksville for the night. We could have done the Lees Ferry road, but once we checked in to the lodge, we wanted to kick back and drink some beer.

If you did this ride in June the days would be longer and you would have more time each day to ride more. But we wanted to go in Sept when the high temps were not as bad so we had to settle for shorter days and less riding time each day.

 

Great write up and pictures. You did a great job with capturing those shots in the right sunlight. Have done that ride for the last 2 years and it never gets old.

We have hundreds of pictures that we took out there. There is so much amazing stuff to take pictures of. I wish I could share more... But like I said before, you need to see it for real, it is even more spectacular!

I'm baffled to think of all those pioneers that crossed this country to get to the great west. We take the land for granted because we have roads that guide us through and around as necessary for our pleasure. They had to get through and around for survival.

Must've been hell!

 

I live in Flagstaff AZ and my wife and I always try to come through Utah on our road trips,never get tired of it.Just came through there on the way back from Portland OR.
Rode the Grand Staircase through Escalante,awsome. Also met "The Desert Doctor"
fine gentleman that roams the hwys around Escalante on his well traveled Harley.40 years M/C repair experience.Did'nt require his services,but great to chat with.
