Default Trip to W.Va...questions I have..helmets and guns

So a group of us are planning a ride to W. (by god) Va. in a few weeks and I have some ???'s

1. Helmets...It is a helmet state I believe (Ohio isn't) so the helmet I tend to wear is non-DOT...How sticky are the cops over this ?

2. Guns, I have my CHL (ccw permit) in Ohio, they DO have reciprocity, Can ya give me some insight into carrying into resturants hat serve alcohol. (In Ohio it is illegal but that portion of the law could be changed in the next revision of it) While carrying I would not consume but if we stopped at a place that served and I was just sitting there would I be committing a crime?

Thanks for any help.

I've used my novelty helmet for the past nine years, and never had an issue. I haven't heard of any area cops cracking down on the novelty helmets, but you never know. As far as the CCW, I don't really know all the details, but I know people that carry into establishments that serve-more of a restaurant & lounge/pub. Here's a site for you to look at: http://www.wvcdl.org/WVCCW.html

THANKS....That link had similar info...nothing mentioned restricting "restaraunt carry" per 2 sites i checked so it must be ok.

And glad the helmet thing isn't gonna bite me (potentially). Don't wanna spend the whole weekend wearing a helmet I'm not happy with.

Thanks for the info.

Default Handgun laws

Sololucky, try this link also www.handgunlaw.us they are up to date and have links to the actual state laws. Also, as I have posted before. Understand what they mean by "concealed" every state seems to have a different definition.

The LEO's in Gauley Bridge WILL bust you for a non-DOT helmet and/or 1 mph over the limit. Turnpike State Trooper in the Beckley area has a thing for non-DOT helmets and apehanger bars. Haven't heard of much trouble in other areas. Watch your speed if you are in any towns on Rt 19.

Default Gauley Bridge

Our HOG chapter had a ride to New River Gorge, we ran into a local at Harley shop and he was telling us NOT to go to Gauley, unless we had dot helmets. Said the cop there was a ***** about dot helmets. I looked on his bike and he had a dot helmet strapped to backrest for trips across Gauley. Wore a peanut shell till he got to Gauley!!! NOW WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE ANY WHERE WE WENT, BUT HE MIGHT'VE BEEN OFF.
If I was you, if they pick on you about a helmet, I sure as hell wouldn't bring pistol there! I have a CCW but won't trust it to cut any ice outside of PA.

Well, some of the LEO's I occassionally ride with wear the novelty helmets too. I guess it depends on which areas you'd be going to.
