Cross country trip and shipping your bike...

Although this is a Canadian company based in the Greater Toronto area, they are pretty big and go everywhere.
The have specialized bike carriers that negate the whole dealer routine of preparing the bike for transport, then getting it ready for the road again on the other end - you'll see a pic of the bike hauler on their site and have an idea of how it works.
Friends of mine have used them 2 or 3 times in the past years for multi-bike trips to Vegas and Daytona, and have always been happy - never an issue.

or call them with your location and itenerary - you never know - they might be in your 'hood near the time you want to leave....
...hope it helps...

I've done the rental thing a few times. Always had a great time but it's just not my kike! I've spent a lot of time and cash making my bike fit me and even an ultra in stock config doesn't seem like a very comfy ride. The whole time I'm enjoying the ride I'm thinking "man I wish I had my bike". It sucks too when you pull in and someone compliments the bike. You're thinking "you should see my SG"! My wife has even said it to people

(but, yes, I agree: I've rented bikes on vacation and have a lot of fun, but always wish I had one of my own)
