Default Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway

Me and a couple of friends are doing a 4 day trip from NJ to the Sky Line drive and blue ridge parkway. Leaving Wednesday morning and should be at beginning of Sky Line by noon. A suggestion on where to stop for the night or a place to eat or grab a beer is welcome.
Thanks

Eight of us did the trip last month, we skipped over Skyline Drive and started at the very end which is the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Skyline is 35 mph and more traffic. The Blue Ridge is 45 which means 50 most of the time and not much traffic during the week. 460 miles and we did it in 2 days. It ends in the Smokie Mountains, more great riding. We stayed at Tuggles Gap for the night, bare bones Motel but clean, $59 a night. It's just below Roanoke a ways. It has a restaurant and bar with an outside deck, not fancy but perfect for what we wanted. It's right alongside of the parkway. The second pic is the place.

Five of us did only the BRP over a 4 day period in July leaving from Baltimore. We didn't get to do all of the BRP (missed about last 50-70 miles) riding it the first two days. You don't make much time when the speed limit is 35. MapQuest said the second day was only 8 hours of riding (240 miles) and after 11 hours we were still 2 hours from the motel on the BRP. I watched my speed on the BRP because it is federal ticket if you are caught speeding. BRP was great on the week days with very little traffic. We rode 11-12 hours each day, stopping only for food and fuel. It should have been a 6 day trip to see the BRP, and the roads around Maggie Valley like the dragon. I want to do it again but will plan for more then 4 days next time. Rode 11 hours (433 miles) the last day from Johnson City TN, to Baltimore on the interstates stopping for food and fuel and an I had the crusie control locked at 72 mph on the interstates. Total trip was 1570 miles.

The best parts to ride are from the Boone/ Blowing Rock area south. Speed is 45 but a ticket is also 200 bucks. I have road some of the virginy part and it's just any oll country road, just slower. 4 days is not much time to see anything along the way like Wheel Through Time or some side road rideing .

Blue Mountain Brewery - near Waynesboro and MP1 of the BRP

Good beer and the view is awesome in the evening.

Default Speed Limits and the Parkway

I passed a gentleman and his wife last Sunday near Blowing Rock. We waved and went on. Unfortunately, about 15 miles later, the lady ran off a very deep embankment on her trike and was killed. The Park Rangers take note of these accidents because they are deeply affected by them, and they will not "give you a break" for speeding. From Blowing Rock to the US 221 exit for Grandfather Mtn., the speed limit is 35. It is 35 for a reason. There are lots of hazards, believe me, I ride it at least weekly, I live here.
Read this thread, and please, ride safe....

I usually take 3 days for the full length BRP (one way South to North)
Meet friends coming down to Waynesboro..
Stay for a day.... ride around, then dinner and a beer....
Then go back down the full length again (North to South)
