Default What's north of Mackinaw City to do ?

Headed up to northern Michigan next week towards Mackinaw City. What's to do north of there towards St. Ignace or somewhere in the area ?

Thought about heading west across the U.P. and then down to Milwaukee - but trip then south and back to Indianapolis looks pretty boring from there. Want to make it a 4-5 day round trip from Indy.

Thanks in advance

Yep, the ride back would be boring, the price of where we live.
The ride through the UP west would be woods, and then some more woods. Wisconsin is fantastic. You can come down the lake side and go to Door County. (The thumb of the Wisconsin mitten) Great tourist type stuff: Wilsons Ice Cream, eat at the Sister Bay Bowl, or find a good supper club) Or you can come down the middle of the state and go to places like Minocqua, Wisconsin Dells. Milwaukee to Chicago is okay, stop at the Brat Stop. Take 41 from the state line through chicago and into the east part of Indiana and then go south home. (Gary is a depressing ride)
So to answer your questions, there is nothing north of the Island. Remember no motorcycles on the Island. Eat some fudge there

If you take the middle of the state idea and go through Minocqua swing by Peck's Wildwood if you like zoos. That place is pretty awesome.

Might be a nice little ride to go see the Tahquamenon Falls in the U.P. while you are up there.

If you're going to Mackinaw City don't miss M119 between Petoskey and Mackinaw City. Stop at Legg's Inn in Cross Village and continue north on Lakeshore Drive towards Wilderness SP to Mackinaw City. US2 west of Mac City is nice too, right along the northern edge of Lake Michigan, Cut River Bridge and Fayette SP are in that area if you're into Ghost towns and bridges, Whitefish Pt/ Taquamonon Falls is about 1hr north also many casinos in the area if you're so inclined. Heard they're working on the Mackinaw Bridge(as always) so you may be forced to ride on the grating, if you do just let the bike do its thing (its scary for some at first, as it move's the bike around) just don't look down if you're afraid of heights. Enjoy

Take the ferry over to the Makinac island. Nice place to visit. No cars or trucks or motorcycles allowed. Just horses and bicycles.

Sault St. Marie is about 60 miles NW of Mackinac and is a great place to visit. The locks for the Great Lakes ships is awesome to see.

There's really not a whole lot except to go to Sault Ste Marie. I've been there several times. The Soo locks are nice and you can take a trip across the International bridge into Canada. A couple of museums and there is the train ride called the Agawa canyon train ride. Google it and see if that's something you'd want to do. It's very scenic. It's worth the trip but an all day thing. Just depends on what you're looking for. The UP has a lot to offer but most are destination type of trips. You could go over to the Keweenaw peninsula and visit the copper mines and take in the scenery. Lots of stuff to do but none of it is really close to each other. If you're coming back down the Wisconsin side you can visit the hallowed Lambeau Field home of the Green Bay Packers and tour the Packer Hall of Fame. Milwaukee offers the HD museum and Miller Brewery tour. You'll get a lot of opinions, but those are some of my favorite things to do up here in this part of the states. If you have any questions send a PM. Oh yah.. remember the Mighty Mac bridge....lol Hope you like tall scary bridges. As another mentioned they usually fix the outer lanes in the summer, which are paved. The inner lanes are all steel grating and there is hardly any divider.
