Last weekend's encounter in Yellowstone
I was riding from Old Faithful headed towards Madison Junction and ultimately West Yellowstone. I came across some stopped traffic, wondering what was causing the usual touristy blockage, and I came across this:

I have to admit it was pretty scary, but really kinda cool at the same time. Fortunately traffic wasn't backed up much in my direction and we got through pretty quickly. Just past the car/trailer in front of me was the park ranger trying his best to keep everything in order.

He just gave me the stink-eye. Traffic started moving and rather than mess with putting the phone away, I just held onto it while creeping forward. The freaky part is that if you watch it, you catch a glimpse of the one on the right of me as well... Completely surrounded with nowhere to go at all.

Hey, Oddjob,
You're from Missoula? How often do you get to YNP?
A real fun time is to come in spring--there is a two-week window when they open the roads to bicycles before opening the whole Park to cars. Nothing like having to ride your way through the bison.
They are wild animals, dangerous and unpredictable, but generally so used to road traffic.
Still never get over the feeling of one of them so close, though!
