I bring a cover to keep people away from my ride when I'm away from it. I've been useing a dowco non descript with heat cushions for the pipes. All you see when bike under the cover is that there is some sort of two wheeler. Yea, and it's been nice for heavy rains.

I just don't get the cover thing. These bikes are made to ride in weather, even electronics and speakers (if you have 'em). Do you cover your cage when you travel? A bike is no easier to steal than 90% of cages, so the safety from theft realistically does not come in to play. If you like to cover, to each his own.

I take a couple big 55 gal trash bags so I can cover the dash & fairing if I want. Sometimes camped under sap dripping trees etc. they fold to nothing and cost next to nothing

I have never been out longer than a week on my bike, but I don't take a cover. I usually do take the seat in the motel room with me to keep it dry for the next morning though.

Default use a cover

I always cover my bike; have a cheap one off eBay. It goes along on multi-day trips, doesn't take up much space in a saddlebag, keeps the bike clean and dry, & disguises it. Additionally it will serve as a ground cloth if I have to work on the bike.

I use one from aerostich, folds up in your hand. My thought out of sight out of mind. If someone wants it there going to get it, but may move on to an easier target.

I like the Nelson Rigg UV2000 half cover for cross countries and long trips. It keeps rain, dew and other junk from collecting overnight. It packs up very small and you can put it on a hot bike.

Either long trip, or short trip, I always have a cover on. The cover has saved my bike one stealing attempt. It is a long story, but I am very glad that I have the cover on.
It takes only a couple minutes, and it keeps the beauty out of sight!
Especically, a Harley!
