Trip from Maryland through WV & Pa.........
I'm planning our third road trip and want input for "places ya' gotta see"!
We planning on taking Rt50 from the D.C. area through WV until heading north to Morgantown. There about we are going to turn back east and either go through southern Pa or western Md until we get to Gettyburg Bike Week and coming home. Looks like a ride up to Johnstown Pa might be interesting, although many love western Md .......maybe old Rt 40 or Rt 144.
Suggestions??? By the way road trips are addicting aren't they !!! Thanks.

Check this route out. I've ridden it several times and it gets better every time. Hits Harpers Ferry, WV, Antietum Battlefield in Md, Gettysberg and Cordurus State park in PA. It takes about 8 hours at a nice pace with time for some sightseeing on the way from my area in Harford County. No Interstates, mostly good 2 lane lightly traveled roads. Please feel free to modify it to your own taste.

Here's one suggestion. From Morgantown I'd ride a few exits on I-68E to Coopers Rock and exit there. Take Rt 7E to Bruceton Mills then 26N a mile or so to Brandonville. Left on Clifton Mills Road, through Clifton Mills into PA where it turns into 381. Follow 381 across Rt 40, down to Ohiopyle and on to 653, turn Rt on 653 and head to Summerset and over to pick up 30 east.

I live too close to have motel'd around this area but I've noticed quite a few places to stay along Rt 40. Not much lodging on the little gray roads but you're always just an hour (or less) away from the little towns. There's Deep Creek, Grantsville, and Summerset, which have plenty of lodging.
Gleason's restaurant on Rt 40, near Farmington is a good, inexpensive, place to experience home cooking, and pie. There's a great restaurant on 219 in Accident MD, just across from the Kubota tractor dealer, (I forget the name) which is a great place to eat. Deep Creek (being a resort area) has a number of good places to eat.

We are riding this area starting 6-24 thru 6-27 and can't wait.day1-head south and ride thru Mongonahela to deep creek, day 2- Dennys beer barrel pub and maybe Johnstown on our way back- day-3 to OHio over the river south and back to deep creek as our home base. Just 3-400 mile days trips, awesome! have a great ride!
