Default 8-10 Days - Where should I go?

Ok, I've got about 8-10 days that the wife will let me get away and I'm trying to figure out where to go. This will be my first 'overnight' bike trip and I'm probably going solo. I'm thinking of doing a combination KOA and motels for sleep - trying to keep costs down.

I hail from Southern Maine so I'd like to get out of New England and see some other parts. I don't mind riding 500-600 mile days to get somewhere....

Some ideas I've been banging around are:

A.) Do a loop around Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and back home
B.) Canada loop, Quebec City to Gaspe then to Nova Scotia
C.) Anything else???

Any (real) suggestions anyone has will be greatly appreciated. Any special routes and/or camp grounds/motels or sights to see would be great!

If you do the KY/WV loop there are several really pretty rides through the mountains. It all depends on what you like, I guess.

Are you looking for more twisty backroads or pretty freeways?

I don't want to do the super slab for 8 days straight - that's why I was thinking to buzz down to WV, KY area and hit BRP, Skyline Parkway and the like. I figure 1 day to get down, then a few days to do the scenic roads then 1 day to get back home...

You can't go wrong with the Blue Ridge or Skyline Pkwys. And most places through West Virginia are just a pretty ride.

And US 129 (Deals Gap) is a must!

Adirondacks, Gettysburg, Skyline Dr., BlueRidge till you
get tired of it, WV got some nice rides but you won't
get better than BlueRidge, over to VA Beach, across
Chesapeake Bay, however home, Rye Beach in NH is
a good place to spend a night by the Ocean.

Have fun, Jim

I'm leaving June 6th trailering from Maine (have done New England highway too many times) to PA then two wheeling to Colorado backroads only. Out on Rte 36 and back by either US40 or 50. I'm also going alone, all the pals who wanted to go now can't make it.

All good suggestions but Nova Scotia is one of the prettiest places I've ever seen and I would love to ride the full loop up to the north coast.

If I were up by you I would want to see Nova Scotia as previously suggested. The video link had some good footage.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

i live in MA and we left last year from south china me and did 8 days through ne brunswick, ferry to dogby, ns, up to pei, back over the bridge and then home through island hoping along the coast. 2 couples so 500 miles was not in our comfort zone. we didnt have a chance to do the east side of nova scoctia and the cabot trail, so we are going back this year. with those kind of miles and time - you could do it all - maybe even newfoundland too!! nova scotia is amazing and plenty of places to stay with a roof. do a search. maybe i will see you there .
