Hi !
I am planning a trip for July. We are going to put the Harleys on a ferry at Bellingham, Wa. and get off at Skagway.
I just got my Milepost 2010 today. We planned to go to Tok and over the "Top OF The World Highway" , then South to Wa. State.
The Milepost said some of the road had reverted back to gravel. Is this road ok for my 08 Softail ?
The Softail is my first big bike and have put 24,000 miles on it. I am not worried about a little gravel damage but I don't want to get stranded. Is it a concern about getting a rock between the belt and the spocket ?
We are going to take a laptop with us and try to post conditions. We will be pressed for time coming back. We want to travel 250 to 400 miles per day but also see what we can. Never been there so this is probably my one chance.
Thanks for all the info.

You shouldn't have too much to worry about as far as service availability south of Dawson Creek, British Columbia (Mile ''0'' of the Alaska Highway)... Of course, this depends on the route you plan on taking.

On the Road Day 1
Left Demopolis AL this morning, 0648
arrived Jackson, MO 1715
not a bad first day, just hot. 455 miles
Larry's trailer is loaded too heavy. I think I have a solution, will get to a hardware store tomorrow to get longer bolts and something to raise the bed off the frame at least an inch to keep the tires from scrubbing on hard bumps.

On the road Day 2
Took two hours, but we raised the bed of the trailer 1 1/2 inches. No problems with tires now. We got a late start, but still made it to Mound City, NE by 6 PM. Met a Vet MC group coming back from a trip to PA. Also talked to a group of riders from Wyoming on their way home today. We dodged rain all day, stayed dry.

On the road Jun 15
Left Mound City, NE in the rain this morning. We ran out of the rain in an hour, but kept the rain suits on because the damp air and 70's temp made them feel good. Got Larry a fuel cap for his bike in Souix City. We are spending the night in Fargo, ND. Another 400 plus day. We cross into Canada tomorrow.

On the road Jun 16
Left Fargo, ND this morning and headed up I29. Stopped at the Harley dealer in Grand Forks and of course Walmart. Got to have the fix before crossing the border. We crossed into Canada and headed up 75 to Winnipeg. We are spending the night at a campground in Brandon. Parts of 75 are like riding a bronco.
