Route 66 near Kingman
I have a meeting in Scottsdale in May. Renting a bike & riding around for a few days before the meeting. 1st day, I'm riding 93 up to Kingman & staying overnight. I'm planning to be there well before dark & would like to take in some of route 66. Within 50 miles or so, either direction, from Kingman, anything I should stop to see and/or look for on 66? Or do I just ride it for awhile, look around, stop for something to eat somewhere & head back to Kingman before dark? Thanks. Looks like great country, but I've never been up near Kingman, so any little bits of "stuff-to-see & do" info will be a huge help.

If my time were limited, I would take the old section (1928 vintage) of Route 66 up the Black Mountain into the "living" ghost town of Oatman, AZ. I love that section of Rt 66! When you come in on 93 you will hit I40 into town and then take Andy Devine/Rt 66.
East - longest stretch of Rt 66 left continous all the way to Seligman. Great road after the first 20 miles but not sure you have time?
West - goes through heart of Kingman (little town), makes a left just after the Route 66 PowerHouse Museum (fun little museum), rolls about 4- 5 mile and you make a right then left under I40 again. This is the stretch that goes up to Oatman, AZ. Oatman way has lots of abandoned mines, twisty's and tight road, watch out for all the wild burro's walking around when you get there!
PM me if you like a week or so before your trip up. If I am available, might join you for the short trip up. Google Oatman and Kingman Power House Museum for a bit more on those attractions.
This is a great area to ride no doubt.......out here though, everything is spread out, it is the great open west!

The directions on this link are describing the short left/then right back under I40 I described. Also a shot of the road you would be on from downtown Kingman.

Some of that is a good stretch not to be in a hurry on. Not only scenic but much more enjoyable when the rubber side is down. I've ridden that stretch many times and every year during the River Run there is always someone that goes down, whether they get packed up too tight, squirrely in some gravel or sand or just plain ride outside of their abilities...
Take your time and enjoy the view.
