Planning a 9 day Lake Superior Circle ride, starting in lower Michigan, crossing the Mackinaw Bridge, then entering Canada via the Sault Ste. Marie bridge... up and around Lake Superior on Rt. 17....then onto Minnesota, down through Wisconsin over and up to Copper Harbor Michigan.. then onto Marquette and St. Ignace, crossing back over the Mackinaw Bridge and heading home.

Anyone made the trip recently? If so, any problem finding gas stations that sell premium fuel in Canada? Any problem areas along the route. Good places to stay or eat? We're starting the adventure July 31 2010. Any and All input is much appreciated.

 

Almost all gas stations in Canada sell 91 octane. Sunoco sells a 93 octane.

August isn't as bad as June/July but be prepared for mosquitos, black flies, and noseeums that can ruin your time outside.

August 2nd is a holiday in Ontario and most businesses will be closed.

Yep, I'm sure we'll have plenty of bugs to get off the bikes as we travel the route.

 

Lots of nice camping up past the Soo if our into that.

 

We're a bunch of oldies but goodies........ ( riders ages 60, 64 & 69) taking this trip......and at the end of 300+ mile rides, need something softer than the ground to deposit the creeky bones on. Nope, we're waaaaaaay past the camping phase. A warm shower & a soft bed is what we look forward to.

 

Ah yes , I do know how you feel. Me too.
It has been a few years since i have been up there , but there are many stops or pull overs to do some great sight seeing. Should be a great trip.
I do know that this year the Mich hog rally is going to held up in the u.p . I think Copper Harbor. The Lansing chapter is holding it. Check it out.

 

The Second annual Michigan HOG Rally will be in the city of Escanaba this year, which about 150 miles west of the Mackinaw Bridge on US 2. I'm not sure of the dates, but if it's in late August, we'll be on our annual Canadian Fly-In fishing trip. Would be nice if it's in September when the colors are changing. That would be a fantastic ride.
