Trip Advice - Headed to Sturgis

How was the road from Rock Springs up to Jackson?
#24
Thanks for the compliments! I've since re-painted the fairing. The guy didn't follow the instructions. Grrr....Much better now.
Anyway, not remembering the leg between Rock Springs and Jackson being too exciting. That was probably the least scenic day of all...but no complaints and if I remember, the road conditions were nice. The approach into Jackson was pretty, of course, with the Tetons in the distance and all.
I'd made that a short day so we could get to Jackson and chill...which we did. Enjoyed getting to Jackson early enough to chill at a beer house and walk around town a bit. The Homewood Suites in Rock Springs was probably the best bang for the buck on the whole trip (for accomodations).
I have about 3 videos from our trip...on my FB page right now. Am in the process of uploading to You Tube (a first!) so I can post them here. Stay tuned!

From Nebraska wife and I did Casper to Jackson, out of Jackson went through Utah and into West Yellowstone, out of West Yellowstone went to Cody, Cody to Sundance, Sundance to Sturgis and then home 2600 miles in 7 days. Ran into rain, hail. Had the time of our life.
We made reservations for all of the stops but changed routes and the only Reservation we kept was the Irma in Cody also recommend the Bear lodge in Sundance. Need to stay at the Irma some say it is haunted, very good food. The rest of the trip used GPS to find a room, most of the time if you are trying to get a room around 5 or 6 pm you have no problem, at least we didn't. After that all the Cagers are trying to find a room.
We over packed, Best advice pack light and find a place to stay with a washer and dryer a couple of times during your trip, have a few brews while the clothes are getting clean and plan the next days ride. Bring leathers it is cold in the mountains, and we hit rain in the afternoon in every mountain pass we went through. Pack tight by rolling everything, I found some wide velco straps that I rolled chaps and leathers got 2 leather jackets, 2 pairs of chaps and 2 sets of rain gear in one saddle bag. Also bought a T-BAG (DAKOTA) we lived out of this bag on top of the tour pac. Never needed to get in the saddle bags or tour pac except we we found a place to stay.
The best part of the trip is the journey, like I said we were going the northern route and at the last minute took the southern route. Meet many great people along the way.
Grand Teton National Forrest as well as Yellowstone south entrance and east entrance had lots of construction this was in August lots of dirt, rock, dust, for 8 miles a crack, they try to keep it wet to keep the dust down but that causes it to be on the slick side, bike gets very dirty. As much construction they have going on it will be like that again this year.
Be safe and enjoy your trip

Reply to Weather
I have lived in Colorado for the past 15 years and you cant accurately plan for the weather to be what you expect. With the last 12 years I have been to Sturgis 10 times. Since you are going for a longer time , think about planing your trip with some of your belongings sent by mail general delivery to specific towns where you plan to stop. Then mail the stuff you don't need any more back home. The post office will keep it there for 30 days without a pickup before returning it back to the sender unless special instructions were given. Makes for a lighter trip with less time at the laundry. I have seen days where it was hot one day then freezing the next. Very windy and don't forget the possible hail. Enjoy
