Looking for new "base camp" in Smokey Mountains
Starting to plan our annual Smoky Mountain ride, usually 4 days around the last weekend in April, and thought we might like to try something different. Anywhere from 4 to 10 of us going. Typically stay at a Microtel Inn or similar at about $60-$75 per night double-occupancy, which is about our limit. Have stayed in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge mostly because of easy access to restaurants and such. Anybody have any suggestions on better/different accommodations in the same price range - with access to restaurants and great riding?

The Red Roof Inn in Gatlinburg will usually only set you back about 40 bucks per night. This price includes a simple breakfast. It was recently remodeled and is clean. I stay there a couple of times a year with no complaints....I stayed their 4 nights Thanksgiving week. After taxes, the total bill was 163 bucks.

I love Kickstand campground in Stecoah. It's in the Fontana Dam area. It is about ten miles from the Tail of the Dragon and Cades Cove. Maybe twenty or so miles from the Blue Ridge. I camp but they have small Cabins. The bath house and showers are spotless. If you want nicer lodging the Fontana Village Lodge is inexpensive and just a few miles up the road.
