What would help is a LOT of email and mail from outside of Utah. The changes to 12 are being opposed by several local groups, including a riding group I belong to. Some dunderhead in state government has it in his head that this section of road is "unsafe," even though it has one of the lowest rural road crash ratings in the state.

The changes are not driven by real safety or tourist interest (the county and southern Utah Chamber have asked the state to reconsider) ... but instead by a need to spend US Highway money.

So, for those that have ridden in the area (or plan to ride in the area) you can contact the governor and UDTO using the following email. Maybe if they get a feel for how much tourist impact this will have they will reconsider. So please, take a few moments to drop them a note letting them know that you don't want the "backbone" to be scarred by "improvements" that are neither necessary or wanted.
