Scenic Va....and not the BRP.
I live 20 minutes from the BRP rarely ride on it. Today, we went up US. 52 to Big Walker Lookout. I have lived a short ride from the tower my entire life, but have never climbed it. We went up today. The claim you can see 5 states on a clear day. Here are shots facing NC and WV.

I've ridden parts of the BRP, but I don't recall Big Walker Lookout. That looks like a spot I would like to have stopped at, but I missed it. That's a good excuse for me to make another road trip east.
Thanks for posting the photos. Awesome good scenic views!
UPDATE: After searching the web for Big Walker Lookout, I discovered that it costs $5.00 per person to climb to the top of the 100 ft. tower.
For that price I would have expected to be able to drive my Harley to the top, (or at least they could provide an elevator).

I'm with you man! there are bunches of alternatives to the BRP in "our" part of the world: 52 is definitely a good one. others i like include: 100 - North or South outta Pulaski, 221/58/11 are all good and put ya on the same vector, 311 thru New Castle & Paint Bank is awesome (gotta eat at the "Swingin' Bridge" in Paint Bank!!), 8 thru Riner & Floyd (Resturaunt at Tuggle's Gap caters to bikers), 220 from Daleville to Monterey then 250 if you like the "twisties") is also nice. I am quite fond of 39 thru Goshen - lots of ways to get there and the beauty of it is you don't hafta come back the same way!
we are truly blessed to live where we do.
attached a pic from 10-21 taken at the overlook on 39 just east of 220.
FYI
imo the peak color will probably hit right around Halloween there, anything after that will most likely be "past-peak" north of Warm Springs.
