Question Road side assistance for long trips.

I'm planning a trip to colorado/wyoming in a couple of weeks and got to thinking what I would if I break down. Do you carry some type of insurance for roadside help. And if you do what kind?

I just have mine through my ins co. Costs $10/yr and basically gets me a tow, probably on its side on a flatbed. Come to think of it I should be asking the same question you are.

I have roadside through Progressive. Haven't had to ever use, but I understand it is worth the extra on the insurance. I also have HOG roadside until the bike is out of warranty. I would be interested on others experience with Progressive roadside.

Progressive is who I have also. Have not had to use it yet, knock on wood.

I'm not a HOG member but if it is worth it then I will be. What about AAA, they have a motorcycle option don't they?

Does anybody have any actual experience with these companies? My concern is if they are going to call the cheapest auto tow they can or if they will call a company that has experience with bikes.

I had mine towed once using HOG's roadside assistance in Spartanburg, SC and I have to say the service and treatment were of the highest level.
Not a problem or hassle when I called, showed up promptly, clean, well equipped tow truck with a motorcycle specific tow setup. I mean A1 all the way. Didn't pay 1 cent and they even reimbursed me for the car rental because their rep gave me the wrong info (recorded in the original call).
Needless to say we renewed our membership.
It is definitively worth it to us as we do fairly long trips and plan on doing them more often, I guess with certain things there's never enough protection..8]

I have the HOG Deluxe pkg. It's a $20 upgrade from basic. I upgraded a few years ago when taking long trips. This year, between Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, I broke down at 8:00 at night. Called Roadamerica, and at first, I was told they couldn't find a wrecker to do the tow. I read some of the horror stories on the forums about this and was concerned. They did keep calling me back. Finally, a supervisor came on and I got him to look at a map so I could explain exactly where I was. After several callbacks, he came up with a wrecker an hour away. The truck showed up and after wrestling the bike up the rollback, we were off to Idaho Falls, about 70 miles away. He dropped the bike off at the dealer, and took us and our little trailer to a motel. About 2 in the morning! So, didn't cost us anything. He had a motorcycle chock but didn't know exactly how to use it. We had to re adjust the straps and winch cable a few times. Overall, a good ending. Wife was afraid we might be bear food! A miracle we had cell phone service, as it was in a canyon away from everything. Oh yeah, a Harley went by and I tried to get him to stop, but he just chugged on by. Maybe Karma will catch up to him! Ha.

Well, out here in the West, the standard sort of roadside assistance packages aren't worth much, including HOG.

Dealers are few and far between, often far more than 100 miles apart, and tow services about that far apart too.

(03Ultra100th, you're lucky!)

Recently, the HD Advisory Panel (anyone else do those online surveys?) polled about different levels of HOG membership and roadside assistance packages than they have now. It looked more attractive to me.

But, as a lot of the country I ride through is out of cell range, or barely, I am probably better off bring my rosary instead of a HOG card.
