Philly to California
Thanks to the forum people who helped me quickly plan this trip. We only had 2 weeks from when we decided to go and departure. Having never ridden more than 300 miles in a day and that was only once, we needed alot of help.
The tale of the "tape:"
4500 miles.
15 states.
14 days.
Longest Day: Madison, WI to Mitchell, SD 526 miles.
Shortest Day: San Ramon, CA to San Francisco for site seeing and back. 87 miles.
Best Riding Day: Frisco, CO to Durango particularly from Monarch Pass on 50 to Montrose and then Montrose to Durango on 550. All I could say is wow. All the better half ccould say was yikes!
2nd Best Riding: California Route 1 from Morro Bay to Monterrey.
Worst Ride: Chicago to Milwaukee on 94.
Best Dinner: Rockin V Cafe in Kanab, UT
Best Lunch: Athena Cafe, Chicago, IL
2nd Best Lunch: Fayze's in Lacrosse, WI
Best Breakfast: The Plains Hotel: Cheyenne, WY
Hottest Temperature: 110 in Mojave, CA
Coldest Temperature: 40 in Frisco, CO
Favorite National Park: Zion
Best National Park Never heard of: Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado.
Met many, many interesting and friendly people.

Is this the road they say if you're afraid of high places, don't go ?

Cruzn:
I think several factors where involved with the "Yikes" including the one you mentioned.
1. Did it at the end of a long day so it was almost dusk. Lots of deer including some on the road.
2. She did have a little issue with heights that was heightened by the lack of Guardrail in some spots.
3. As we started up into the mountains, we had a couple of close encounters with rental RVs that wandered into our lane.
When we were almost to Durango but still in the mountains, traffic stopped for about 15 minutes. As we started up again, a flatbed was hauling a pickup that had obviously flipped and a towtruck was hauling a motorcycle. We did not see any ambulance but we could have arrived after it left as the back up was pretty long. She was already spooked before that so that was not the reason.
