New River Gorge Bridge area WV, hotels, restaurants, etc?
Putting together a trip to the N.R.Gorge area in WV next weekend 14-15-16. Never been there and need recommendations for hotel, food, hangin' out. Of course riding is planned but we want to be comfortable when off the bikes.
I've read some posts here that say to watch out for deer. It will be 325+ miles to get there so we'll want to rest well and don't mind paying a few extra bucks for a decent place to stay. Don't know if Oak Hill/Fayetteville area would be okay to stay or not, seems Charleston might be too far off. Any recommendations appreciated.

I've never stayed there so I can't comment on any accommodations. There are a number of places in Fayetteville though. Also Summersville which is just a little north.
Just in case you didn't know, that area around Summersville and even Fayetteville is a world renown speed trap. 50 means that 50, not 52.

Plenty of motels in Sommersville. Sleep Inn. Comfort. Super 8, Best Western, Hampton. Not far from the bridge. Also while there, ride down the old road under the bridge. And check Thurmond. Old abandoned town, now taken over by Nat'l Park Service. http://www.wvepostcards.com/thurmond/

Been a few years so can't help with route numbers, but at the bridge take the road from the vistors center down and under the bridge, old bridge crosses over down stream with excellent views. On main road about a mile past the bridge (opposite side of vistor center.) make a left theres a bbq place forget the name you can't see it from the road but only a few hundred yards down. Full menu awsome place. The harley shop close by recommended it. As for lodging can only say don't stay at Hawk's nest state park, felt like we where in a dungeon wouldn't stay there again. The cable car they show is just an incline and no views. As someone else stated fayettesville and summersville is speed trap heaven. If time allows for side trips, cass is pretty cool with scenic train rides, old railroad station. National radio observatory in area, Mystery hole in the wall is an old army barracks with a VW bug sticking out of the side, its a tourist trap but it was pretty cool see if you can stand up while sitting on the chair on the wall. Babcock sp has Maybelle or mulberry mills is the pics above nice place to stretch your legs.
If in the area senicia rocks is worth a detour you won't believe it stands up. Lodging Black water falls sp is nice but no night life, Caanan Valley ski resort is nice too, but these might be a little further north then your traveling. WV is a beautiful place to ride but be careful of the wildlife, and the curves always seems to have gravel on them, discovered that when trailer trucks round the bends the trailers go onto the shoulder and drag the gravel back up. Check there tourism board they have ride maps with points of interest that are catered for motorcycles. Have fun ride safe.
