I just discovered that HWY 412 goes from Springer NM, to Columbia TN. I didn't realize you could go that whole distance without touching an Interstate. Anyone gone that whole route? Is it worth it? The only input I got was from a Trucker who told me that it was all great until some part of Arkansas where it got real dull, and he recommended dropping down to the 40 to finish the trip. I'm trying to stay scenic the whole way. Suggestions?

 

you have not seen dull till you ride from springer to tulsa then it gets nice till you hit eastern ark. gets nice again in tn. in western ok. be sure and keep you tank topped off. there are few gas stops and if you are riding after 6pm some might be closed. also be aware of the heat and drink plenty of water if you make this ride before the middle of sept. the heat and humidity is horrible here in ok. at the present. not the best time for a tour. imho

 

Yeah, 412 in North Central Oklahoma is mostly turnpike. I think I40 is more scenic than 412 is.

But if you do take 412, watch for all those speed traps in the small towns. Speed will drop from 65-70 to 25-40 within about a block.
