It's longer but for scenery I would head down I-55 to Memphis and take Hwy. 64 across southern Tn. You will eventually hit I-24 and you'll want to take I-24 to Chattanooga and then take I-75 north out of Chattanooga. You can get back on 64/74 at Cleveland Tn. Once you get to Murphy NC. then take Hwy. 74/19. Pretty scenery. Good roads. Not a lot of traffic. Chattanooga was pretty easy to get through on 24 and 75. If you haven't been to Chattanooga is has great scenery and Civil War battle fields that we enjoyed.

If you come down I57 to KY, make sure and stop in Marion, IL at 17th street BBQ. This is the best ribs I have ever had. We call them ("give me a slab") down here. Have a good trip, I head down there every year. I mostly stay in Maggie Valley, NC. I am always in too big of a hurry to get there and just take I24 to Nashville and I40 the rest of the way. If you get to Tellico Plains, TN try to take, I believe it is 68 south from there. One of those great roads I just came across.

I took a trip to Deal's Gap last month, great ride, man. In addition to the dragon, I recommend the Cherohala Skyway route and the road that runs through the Great Smoky Mts. Nat'l. Park for scenery.

Enjoy,
