Going to Laconia - are they tough on noise?
Wife and I are riding from Bucks Co., PA to VT, spending a couple of days at Laconia, then a couple days at my son's house in Maine. This will be her first longer ride on her Nighster so I hope the weather holds up for a few days. I'm reading about noise level enforcement during Bike Week. Both bikes have V & H and can be pretty loud. Any experience with Laconia law enforcement? I didn't even try to ride through Myrtle Beach while I was there.

Best suggestion I can give you is don't be "stupid." Laconia is a huge rally, spread over a very large area. If you're reasonable and don't whack the throttle a lot just to make noise, they're not going to bother you; but I wouldn't get on the Weirs and bang it to show off! Have a good trip, plan on rain (seems to be pretty wet most years.) If the sign says "no parking," do not leave your bike there cause it WILL be gone when you get back. ALL of the cops at Bike week have grown up with this going on. It's the oldest motorcycle rally so none of them can remember life without the Laconia Motorcycle Rally. For the most part, the cops are reasonable, friendly, and not out to hassle anybody. Just use your noggin!

been there, done that
I lived a few miles away in Woodstock, Barnet and Plymouth, VT for 17 years and have been in Laconia many times, although never on 2 wheels. I am familiar with the "chest thumping" from Woodstock - the most non-Vermont town in VT. I'm not a "rev it up just to hear it" guy so it appears I should be OK. We live near new Hope, PA and they are much the same - if it's loud and you don't "act stupid', to borrow a phrase, they leave you alone. Haven't been back to the NE for some time and I expect any weather, including snow. Back in the 90's, we had 7" of snow on July 7th. How screwed up is that? It's one of the reasons I moved south. Thanks!!
