Default Blue Ridge Parkway North End

I posted a few days back about good places to stay on the BRP and got some great info about places on the south end and middle.

Does anybody have any recomendations for the north end around Front Royal?

Thanks

I can't help on where to stay, but I can tell you where not to stay. Avoid the Blue Ridge Motel at all costs. That is unless you are in to drug dealers and prostitues. When I was there last summer we found tons of small hotels.

The only chain I saw in front royal was a Hampton Inn (too pricey for me). I think I saw a super 8, but it had bad reviews online. I took advice from someone else in the area and ended up in one of the scariest places I have ever slept.

I spoke with the local police that showed up at our hotel that night. They told me that almost all of the small hotels in the area are saturated with dope dealers.

If I had it to do over again, we would have stopped in Winchester and stayed there instead.

Try the Days Inn at Luray. It's about 6 miles off the Skyline Drive. I haven't stayed there, but it has been highly recommended by some of my friends. From what I've heard from a lot of people, avoid Front Royal lodging

We spent a night in Fancy Gap at a Days Inn which was nice. Had dinner in Mt Airy and visited Mayberry which has all the Andy Griffths stuff. Spent the next night in Waynesboro at a Quality Inn. Both were biker friendly and there were plenty of bikes.

The Peaks of Otter Lodge is very nice and it is right on the parkway.

Default Blue Ridge Ride

This is one of my rides I am hoping to make this summer. I live in Louisville, KY. Where actually does it start at? I'd like to ride it all the way down to TN.

The Skyline Drive begins on the North at Front Royal, VA and runs to Afton Mountain (near Waynesboro) where it then becomes the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Skyline Drive part is a National Park and requires an admission charge ($10 I think). The BRP is a free ride all the way from Afton Mtn to the south end on the Great Smoky Mountains.

+1 On Peaks of Otter, great place on the BRP. You will need to make your reservations early, it fills up quick.

Luray is also a good choice there are a few hotels there. If you're going all the way to the end there is a holiday inn express off I-81 in Stephens City. They were nice enough to leave a bucket of suds and some towels out by the scoot when I got up in the morning.

I was just checking the website to check my memory and it also shows one right off the end of the skyline very close to if not in Front Royal.

good luck with the ride
