I'm heading there too - Sept 27th thru Oct 4. Plan to hit the Cherohala Skyway and as much of the Blue Ridge Parkway as I can.

Be sure you check out the gas situation before you go, we got to Millegeville, Ga and there was no gas north of there. AAA said the best they could do is give a tow if we ran out of gas due to the shortages in Ga, NC & TN.

I was just up there 3 weeks ago. N. Ga, Western NC, Great riding, but there was a very limited supply of gas. If possible, call ahead about the fuel situtation.

Asheville had lots of restaurants that catered to casual (including jeans and HD T's)

I live in upstate SC and we made the trip to the Dragon a few months ago. I had a great time. After the Dragon we made our way to Knoxville, then to Galax V the back home. Some of the back roads we took were just as fun and challenging as the Dragon. Have a safe trip. We saw two guys that wiped out on the Dragon.
