Default none DOT helmet warning

Just to let every one now, on my way to sturgis this year I was stoped in Grand Island NE. and forced to buy a DOT approved helmet from the lockal H.D. dealer. So if your going that way go around Grand Island. And it wasn't just me all the way to sturgis every time we stoped talked to someone with two helmets too. the kicker is we always go that way and stop for (gas, food or motel) but no more.

All of Nebraska is a "helmet state" - Nebraska Motor Vehicle law Section 60-6,279 states…”A person shall not operate or be a passenger on a motorcycle or moped on any highway in this state unless such person is wearing a protective helmet…said helmet must meet or exceed the standards established in the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218, 49 C.F.R. 571.218, for motorcycle helmets.“

And I go through&nbsp\\; GA. on my way to FL. no problems.

Helmet laws have never been about safety. It is always about money.

Why couldn't you just take the ticket and continue on?&nbsp\\; Why did you have to buy a new one on the spot?

Don't buy a Lottery Ticket today...you're pretty bad at guessing.

Your original post seemed to suggest that Grand Island is the only section of Nebraska that has laws concerning helmet requirements.

As Chief Moose would say..."just tryin' to edge-a-ma-kate da people..."

My question is, if you have to wear a helmet, why not wear a DOT helmet?

This was just to let every one now to avoid Grand Island unless you wear a DOT helmet. And the helmet was $42.00 and the ticket was $75.00 plus court cost. Didn't mean to start an thing.

So you are upset that you got caught breaking the law? I guess I do not understand why you are so upset when you know that states that require a helmet require a DOT approved helmet, not a joke non approved helmet.

No, I am not a cop before you say that, I just do not understand the gripe is all.
