RE: Trip to Shanksville,PA
I rode out there last year. \\; Worth the trip for sure. \\; It's an odd kinda place really. Very somber.
 \\;
Locals don't seem to appreciate the visitors very much. \\;
 \\;
Strangest thing of all to me was the church on one end of the road and the adult book store on the other end.
 \\;
Not much else around but the roads are cool.

RE: Trip to Shanksville,PA
Was there last year and it was very moving for me and my wife.
You can't actually see the site as far as I know, just the memorial.
I couldn't see spending any real time there though. It really is in the middle of nowhere.
Nice ride and definately worth the trip!
Anything other then that I can't help - sorry.

RE: Trip to Shanksville,PA
We went there a few weeks ago during the Johnstown Thunder in the valley bike rally. \\; Don't expect a lot of fancy stuff as it still just a little shack and some memorials right now. \\; However, the emotional part is very intense (unless you just don't care, but then if you didn't you wouldn't be going). \\; The permanent memorial is suppose to be opening in 2011 ( I think). \\; Definitely worth the trip.
We rode from Gettysburg to Johnstown on US30. \\; it's a really cool ride once you get past Chambersburg. \\; At the top of the first mountain coming from gettysburg is a neat biker bar right at the top on your left. \\; Good place to stop for some "beverages". \\; Sorry, don't rememebr the name.
We stayed at the Sleep Inn in Johnstown, biker friendly.
Locals are nice as we got caught in an afternoon thunderstorm on our way to the flight 93 crash site. \\; We stopped in front of some house and were changing into our raingear, and the owner came out and invited us up to his big DRY front porch. \\; We talked bike stuff and flight 93 stuff. \\; Talked for about 45 minutes, rain stopped so all we really neede the raingear for was the road spray.
Lot's of good riding roads in the area and nice people (maybe it was because of the bike rallY).
So go and enjoy.
