Default Routes to Lake Placid NY from Western Mass.

Hello All,
I am planning a ride to Lake Placid NY from Western Massachusetts. Looking at the maps route 22 looks like it might be a nice ride up to Ticonderoga then over to route 73. Anyone familair with RT22? Is it agood motorcycle road? Are there other routes or things to see that i should consider? Planning on getting there in one day.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

if you can spare more than 1 day.......and you should...
come towards pittsfield and pick up 20 west...
off of 20(runs east/westjust south of i90)head north on 10 (at sharon springs)..turn right on 8 and go towards speculator..take 30 north to indian lake..take 28/30 to blue mtn lake ...cont. on 30 north to long lake....go east on 28n towards i87 take the jog just past the hudson towards t. rosevelt mon. that takes you to the i87...jump on the interstate and go 1 exit north...take 73 to keene and follow 73 into lake placid. a good one day trip is to the chasm(by keeeseville) and white face mountain. a decent place to stay in lake placid is the alpine inn and rest. you can park your bike in front of the rooms and they have efficency suites.....as your coming into lake placid you'll come to set of light at the main drag...turn right and the hotel is down a quarter mile on the right.....it's a short walk to all the town restaurants and bars....don't forget it's a short ferry ride to vermont and then new hampshire(no taxes) in new hampshire you have the white and green mountains as well as mount washington.. this way you can do a big circle and ride some beatiful roads.

Life is great...We all Ride!!!

These are some great roads. I've never been on 20 West. My favorite road from Mass. into NY has to be Rt2 along the northern edge of Mass. Hope you have a great trip. All thse roads that jeffbarb17 mentioned in NY are super.

Hey Paul, where in western Mass are you? That would help in suggesting what routes might be good for a 1 day trip...............we live right on the Mohawk Trail in Shelburne (Rte 2) it's about an hour ride to the NY border from here. The Mohawk Trail becomes the Taconic Trail as you cross into NY and it's a fantastic ride that way! I think you can pick up rt 22 n from 2 and head north......When you get to the Lake George area, or just south of it, you can take rte 30 right up to Placid..........awesome ride! Have fun.

Thanks all for great suggestions i will be going over my maps. I live in Westfield, ma so i know rt 2 well and have spent a lot of time riding in that area. My buddy is coming from needham, ma so we were discussing meeting on rt2 then heading to NY. I rode to lake placid last year by myself took all highway. Route 87 is okay once you get a bit north just a nice road good scenry and little traffic but 90 and the first part of 87 is not so much fun. I like the idea of taking a ferry to VT or NH i will check that out.

thanks again

If you take 20 or 2 west you can pick up RT 7 north up through VT and then over to NY

7 is an awesome road.

yep, 7 is good! Maybe 2 to 7 (in Williamstown) north to Bennington and then west on 9 into NY........or even farther north up 7 before you cross over! All good!

Default Riding the Mohawk Trail in Western Mass

Route 2 is a beautiful ride! We liked riding the Mohawk Trail up to Greenfield. Amazing road especially in the fall. Don't know how we'll manage on a trike with all the curves, but will give it a try. Dick scraped his footboards on the Classic the last time we were up there! Scared the heck out of me even though he's done it before!
