Default Southwest ride

I seek advice. I am planning a trip to see some old friends later this summer. I will stop at Santa Rosa NM, again in Alamagordo and then want to ride down to Bisbee, Az. over to Tombstone then up to Hoover Dam. What roads would you recommend for scenery/ places to see along this route. I prefer avoiding the interstate unless I have no other way.
Thanks in advance!

Try this www.byways.org

From Santa Rosa you have several options to drop south and west avoiding Albuquerque. Some of it is straight and flat though. Going west from I-25 unless you have a reason to go to Alamogordo, get off in Soccorro and take Hwy 60 west. Top off in Soccorro or Magdelena. The Very Large Array is a must stop, and Pie Town west of the VLA is a must stop for the pies. You can continue on into AZ or drop south from 60 and go through Silver City and then continue west.

If you don't have to go to Alamogordo take 54 from Santa Rosa to Highway 60, then 60 to I-25. At Socorro get on 60 again and go to Quemado. From Quemado take 32 to Reserve. From Reserve take 180 to Alpine and then 191 to Morinci. 191 from Alpine to Morinci is some of the most scenic country you will ever see and a great motorcycle road with LOTS of curves. Plan on about 3 to 3 1/2 hours for the 90 mile stretch.

If you have to go to Alamogordo, take 54 from Santa Rosa to Carrizozo and then 37 to Ruidoso. Take 70to 224 and 224 to Cloudcroft. From Cloudcroft go straight into Alamogordo. If you want some NM history, ie. Billy the Kid, then go on to Lincoln and Hondo to get to Ruidoso. Visit the Lincoln County Court House Museumin Lincoln.

From Alamogordo take 70 to Las Cruces and then take I-25 to 152. You can then take 152 to Silver City and from Silver City you can take 90 to Lordsburg and I-10.

Don't forget the Devils highway in Arizona between Springerville and Clifton on your way. Real nice ride.

Cool!! Do the canyon through Safford too, east of Benson and the highway that used to be 666(no kiddin') that is an awesome ride!! Comes out around Holbrook if I'm not mistaken.
You will go through some of the highest elevation in AZ, Rose peak I think about 10000 ft!!
Awesome!!
Want to do that one myself!!

When you get "in the neighborhood" of Hoover Dam, Kingman Az is kinda cool. You've got Mother Road HD there.....some pretty good eateries.........rt 66 goes through town.............you can take 66 west from Kingman up into the Black Mts and check out Oatman.............this is probably the best place I've ever seen in the world! wooden sidewalks, wild burros wandering Main St (66) very friendly locals.............very small town, but way cool! From Oatman, you could head out to Laughlin Nv up towards Searchlight Nv and then across to Nipton Ca and then up to LV if you had a mind to, then of course on the way back down hit the dam then.....just a thought!
