My Weekend Trip Through West Virginia (With Photos!)

RE: My Weekend Trip Through West Virginia (With Photos!)
Great post.
Seeing the tent reminded me of a similiar trip my wife and I did to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I purchased a blowup mattress and a tent (I thought would be large enough). I put up the tent, placed the mattress inside and started the pump. There was no room left inside the tent for anything else. If you've ever tried to change clothes are anything else other than sleeping on an air mattress it can be quite humorous.

Those pictures brought back memories. I grew up in WV and vividly remember Cool Springs. I used to drive by it all the time when I was stationed in Sugar Grove WV. What a great trip for you and thanks for sharing.

Blue potato, Your making me homesick. All my family is from there, and I have been visiting since birth. Thanks for sharing I'll be up there next to grafton in Fairmont for the Xmas Holidays, hopefully showing my children snow for the first time. I'll be headed up next summer for a longer stay, and maybe doing the covered bridges tour. Here are some links for ideas on your next trip.

I was raised in West Virginia but didn't appreciate it's beauty until I left for the Army in 1967. I'm 58 years old now and live in Florida. I sure miss those hills. Every Oct I go back to see the changing of the leaves. I have a traditional ride I do every year. I leave from my wife's folks home in Washington, PA. Follow old Route 40 East to Cumberland, MD. Then South to Seneca Rock on the East side of the Monongahalia National Forest. Have lunch. Ride Rt 33 over the mountain to Elkins. Then North on the Western side of the Monongahalia National Forest and back to old Rt 40 back to Washington, PA. It takes me about 10 hours but what a beauitful ride.! One year I rode it with WINTERY MIX of snow and rain in Oct. Cold and wet. It was so foggy I had to ride those mountains at about 15 MPH with my head looking around the windshield to see where I was going. I couldn't even see Seneca Rock. It was covered in fog. If you ever get to Beckley (my hometown) ride Rt-3 to Charleston if you like twisties. There are no bad roads in the State. They are all good.
