Default In a strange state with loud pipes

In my home state we do not have noise limitation for bikes. My Patriot Defenders came with some sort of valve which was supposed to adjust the noise level, but it did not like my riding and flew away. Without it this exhaust is loud. I have been in many states without being pulled over for noise, yet I wonder if this may become an issue in some crazy state like CA – haven't been there with my bike, yet.
Thus the question is: shall I expect trouble in some states with my noisy bike?

Not just the state, but many towns are cracking down on all noisy exhausts. They usually have warning signs as you enter the area. If you don’t ride like an *******, no throttle bleeping, and no high rev shifting and down shifting you should be ok.

My town has many outdoor restaurants right along the main drag. Nobody wants to be having a nice romantic dinner, when some goober is sitting at an adjacent traffic light revving his bike and it’s loud enough to rattle your eating utensils.

Orange County CA beach towns don’t seem to care if you’re being respectful. Some are using decibel meters to write citations… 🤨

it’s because too many idiots with obnoxiously loud exhausts in both bikes and cars have crossed the line and brought attention to it.

I also live in a state that has laws/regulations and have not heard anyone getting stopped for loud exhaust.....doesnt mean it is not happening.

The city I live in has an ordinance against noisy vehicles......it is pretty liberal and requires no noise meter to issue a citation.....

Would it hold up in court? Have no idea.....I still see motorcycles and cars/pickups with canned mufflers that rattle windows.....

max fine is 200 bucks.

On the state side you may get a defective muffler citation....that would be more common. Technically, the muffler is "altered" when the part flew off....

I suspect if you looked at your state laws, there is a law, just not enforced. Who likes to be woken up, ect by a loud bike? We like the sound of our bikes, but not other people. Then you got the guys screaming out of a bar asking for DUI and causing problems for the bar.

Not saying I am a saint. I do try to keep RPMs down in town or idle away quick at late nights if I am at someones house in town.

I am not sure how wide spread they are yet, but heard about devices that measure db and send you a ticket.

Stay out of Laguna Beach, Ca. if you have concerns about how loud your exhaust is.
They WILL cite you if they measure excessive DB levels.
