Default UPDATE: 2,600 miles in 5 days

A few of us are headed down to Chattanooga TN from Laconia, NH
Any recommendations while we are down there? Headed out from NH on 9/11 should be there early evening on 9/12. Heading back home 9/14.

**** Update ****
With the hurricane/tropical storm that decided to park its a$$ over TN we pivoted and did a 2,600 mile jaunt. Road trip as follows:
This year's 5 day jaunt which had us leave Laconia, NH (9/11/24) to Clearfield, PA, then to Parkersburg, WV, then to Dover, MI (Hell), then to Batavia, NY, then home (9/15/24). We did 2,615 miles. This consisted of some back roads like the triple nickel (Rte. 555) in Ohio, a ride out to Smitty's Hell Saloon in Hell MI., Rte. 2 out of Toledo to Cleveland (R&R HoF) then Rte. 531 east along Lake Erie in Ohio, then from there we ended up at Niagara Falls, stayed in Batavia, NY our last night. Then back to home we and lots of back roads in NY - VT and home in Laconia, NH. We averaged 520 miles a day.

Hell Saloon, Hell, MI

R & R Hall of Fame in Cleveland

Angela's Café in Conneaut, Ohio

Never been there, and not to be a wet rag, but my buddy I meet in Robbinsville NC (Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, etc) to ride far west NC and East TN comes in from the west to meet me and has to cross Chattanooga to get there and tells me how much he hates riding through there every time.

I’d be thinking about Robbinsville, NC, Tellico Plains, TN, Bryson City, NC, Maggie Valley, NC.

I live in Chattanooga. It’s a great area for a visit. However, traffic is horrendous. From my house I’m less than an hour to the North Georgia mountains, and 2 hours from NC. If you were looking for a place to stay for a few days and go on day rides it would be fine. But as a ride destination, unless you have something specific you want to see that’s here, there are better options that are within an hour or two of here.

I have to chime in with the fact a bunch of major interstates all connect at one tiny place leading to a massive traffic headache. Really not 4 but 75 north and south, 59 and 24 into chat....plus when I went the state was doing some road construction

Great area I am sure but I am from Houston and when I say somewhere has bad traffic then this place has bad traffic!

I was going to the dragon as well.....I stopped at the local HD and got me a break/t shirt.

Just to go back to the traffic.....it made it a bad memory and I went in September as well.

I am sure if you have a destination in mind then it won't be so bad.....they have an awesome downtown and Lookout Mountain!

Major road construction on all of the interstates through town. It will be that way for the next couple of years. If you’re actually going to stay here there are ways to avoid it. But passing through is terrible.

If good riding is the goal, Maggie Valley is 100 miles closer to Laconia and a better riding destination. If you guys just want to come to Chattanooga, I can give you routes that avoid the traffic nightmares.

Would love to hear about your routes that avoid the traffic. Thank you everyone for your comments. We have done Robbinsville, NC and we have been to Deals Gap, and The Tail of the Dragon. Friend found that 157 mile loop that is a City Escape and we thought we would give the other side of TN some love.
