Can I still make that long trip....
Yeah, it weights on my mind a little. At 67 and taking a couple of trips a year the past 13 years (missed past two years but ride locally), I'd still like to make a South Dakota ride or Colorado (been 6 times). But just worried the stamina might not be there. The Harley definitely keeps my spirit young, but the body is starting to laugh at it.
Man, I enjoyed those trips.
In 2020 I rode up WY to Montana, down Idaho and Colo for two weeks. I don't think I can make that trip now.
I still walk around 5 miles a day but the arthritis is creeping in the fingers and hands and the back is not what it was.
I might try a close ARK ride next month to test it. That should tell me what's what.
I'm not ready to get rid of it yet.
I'm sure some of you have gotten to this point?

I'm about your age and make local day rides of about 250 with no problem. But I feel the same way you do with respect to longer rides. However, with a couple more days on the road and hotel stays I think it is doable. So breaking it down to fewer miles per day over more days may work. You have to take more breaks and stay hydrated.
The problem I can't figure out how to resolve it the stifiling heat getting out of central Texas. In August, it's like riding in an oven after noon, so full days of riding are not an option for me. I was in Sturgis in 2022 it was hot there, but not as hot as here.
Not sure where you are located, but a ride to Kerrville and on to the Sisters or something similar might be a good test for your comfort zone in miles per day.

I've used a hydration vest in August in NM which does work well for a couple of hours.
But you're right have to leave early in Tx. I'm in Dallas.
When I went on that Montana ride, I left middle of August... EARLY...
But it was 40 in Idaho when I got there.. which was a surprise.
You're right, I started out 300 mile days mainly 13 yrs ago due to the guy I was riding with. When he stopped I got the Airhawk and sheepskin which got me up to 450 mile days.
But I think it's time to scale back down,.

Last trip I rode to Sturgis from San Diego was 2015 for its 75th Anniversary. I was 72. Rode with oldest son to Colorado to second son’s house. 1100 miles 3 days. Then to Sturgis 360 miles. Easy trip if you’re riding with people you love.
Sons stayed longer than me so I rode back alone. It was a very long trip.
You Do It at 67 or you will regret not doing it!

Just do it!!….ain’t gettin any younger!
gatorade is a good thing, but they make better stuff called gatorlyte (i think). It helps with electrolytes. It’s kinda like pedialite, only for adults.
I’m 65, and last year rode from SE SC to Arkansas, and then on to Denver. I’d get up early when it was cool and shed sweatshirts, jackets as it got warmer. I’d listen to my body. When I felt stiff, I’d stop and stretch for 10 minutes. If I got hot, I’d stop in some place that had A/C for 20-30 minutes. When I got tired, I’d find hotel and stop for the day. I’d also eat peanut butter or some almonds whenever I stop……good protein boost is always good, too
No place I gotta be. Don’t have to punch a clock. Took my time and enjoyed the ride……..I say again…Just do it!!
