Any Advice For My First BIG Road Trip? ? ?
Well, if all goes as planned. . .
I will be going on my first BIG road trip in about three weeks.
If I can work everything out, I will be traveling from Orlando Florida to Northwest Arkansas on my Road King.
Now. . . I need some advice.
First. . .what route should I take? Any ideas?
Second. . . what should I take with me? I will be traveling solo?
I have several days to make the trip, so give me your ideas. . . .
Thanks. . . .
Hope to see you on the Road!

Plan your route missing Atlanata if possible. If you have to go through Atlanta, use the car pool lane and go through downtown (it's legal for bikes and safer). In my opinion, you'd be better off going west on I-10 then some route north to Birmingham (being you are heading westerly anyway) than going through that hell called Atlanta (from a traffic standpoint only). I don't want to be too specific 'cause I don't know if you like super slabs or secondary roads. Old hwy 19then west on 98would bemore interesting to me than I-75 and I-10 respectively and then north to Birmingham and eventually to Arkansas. Have a great trip. The miles and time just melt away on bike trips. It's the journey, not the destination!

I had already planned on missing the city of Atlanta. You are right. . .the traffic there is something to be avoided if you are a visitor and not sure of where you are going.
I was sort of planning on going up through Tallahassie into Dothan (stopping by at the Harley place there), then going on through Birmingham, and up through Jasper and Tupelo, and on to Memphis. . . .
OR. . . .along I-10. . . to Lafeyette, up to Shreveport, and then cut up to Texarkana and take the back roads. . . .
Can't decide. . . . .
LOL
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Concerning gear. . thanks for the suggestions on the compressor and tire gear. I'll throw that in.
See you on the Road!

water, water, water, oh and more water. sun screen is a definate also. A few small things I would suggest... brake lock, rag and small bottle of windex to clean bugs off shield and any parts you don't want bugs cooked by the sun, good camera, eye drops, tylenol...

Yep,keep hydrated, stop at the rest stops along the way.It makes the trip more relaxing, and you will likely meet some interesting people. Make it fun,not a job. Stop for the night before you're really all tired out. Take your basic hygine kit.Don't forget your cell charger, your meds if any,and some simple first aid items. Clear riding glasses for night,a small microfiber towel to clean them. Extra pair of jeans, and a couple shirts. Some warm gear,it could get cold, better to have it and not need it.
That's about all I can think of right now. Enjoy.
