Thank you all for your suggestions and replies. Oatman looks like exactly like something we'd like to check out. We're up for any suggestions or "must sees."

If you do Oatman, please go see Laughlin, a short side trip up river about 20 miles. I love riding the desert, I think its the solitude and scenery that makes it special, great sunsets and sunrises.

I have met many nice folks along the way as well. Some good stops in California are Ludlow and Amboy (Roys is for sale again). A few cars still travel the road, so you wouldn't be stranded. Cell phones work along some of the route. Be sure and see the rock grafitti along the way. Folks stop and spell out their names in white or other color rocks along the berms next to the road, and see the shoe tree outside Amboy, where there are dozens of shoes hung in a manzanita tree. Pretty funny.

Working on a plan to ship about 20 bikes from New Zealand to Chicago in late July 2008 to ride:
[ul][*]to the 2008 Sturgis Rally - early August [*]from there over the top of Lake Michigan to Niagara falls - mid August[*]back via Detroit to the 2008 Davenport Vintage Motorcycle Swapmeet - late August[*]Route 66, Chicago to Santa Monica - September [*]ship the bikes home from LA - end of September[/ul]Yeah, I know it seems a long way off but a 10,000km ride is not something to be done from way over here without a lot of forward planning, LOL.

Will get as much information as possible from books etc, but would appreciate any personal feedback which may be helpful. Like, will it be too hot, areas to avoid, things not to be missed etc.

Don't forget we drive very agressively (cars that is) which is something I hear doesn't happen over there.

Oh, and the sheep here are not a substitute for women, so leave em alone. They are mine! All mine! [:@]

Sooee: Damn! I want to ride with you! I was baptized with Foster's Beer in a white with blue trim bar just off the harbor in Christchurch in 1985. I consider myself at least a "honorary New Zealander". I know most of that country that you are going to ride thru. PM me with your e-mail address and I will at least try to help. ........... BC
